Why did I move?
22 Feb 2017 17:19So....why did I move the Journal? I started with LiveJournal back in 2006, which is a very long time, so it's kind of a hassle.
Sometime late in 2007, a Russian firm bought LJ. Knowing what I have heard about the Russian government, that gave me pause. But there were still employees in California, and the servers were here. Well...end of 2016, the servers were moved to Russia, meaning there is no US protection of private data.
So, there it is. I moved to a different site because the servers are in a country where the citizens don't have free speech rights.
So, why Dreamwidth? Well, it's similar to LiveJournal -- actually running LJ's open source code. And I can import my LJ posts.
And although I like Wordpress fine, there's something about it that bugs me. I think it's because there are "too many" options. I have a WP journal for Angels of Hollywood Cemetery, and every time I post something there, I think there are too many options. All I want is text and images, tags, and I'm done.
I have never looked at other blog sites. And blogs are kinda of an old style of website...Dreamwidth I guess just seemed familiar.
