Dear February,

First Amaryllis blooms almost here! I force these blooms in the winter .... because February. Then the plants go outside for the Summer to get ready for next Winter's indoor blooming. The first one is about to bloom!


So the story goes that Crocus was one of Hermes' lovers, and Hermes accidentally KILLED him with a discus! Wherever Crocus' blood dripped, little crocus flowers bloomed. The flower in front is a Snow Crocus from my garden -- earliest signifier of the arrival of Spring!


The weather has been really odd. I don't remember the Snow Crocuses blooming in January!
