On the ballot
6 Feb 2026 15:02On the ballot in November in my state -
This November, voters will be asked:
Question: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to: (i) remove the ban on same-sex marriage; (ii) affirm that two adults may marry regardless of sex, gender, or race; and (iii) require all legally valid marriages to be treated equally under the law?
Reason is that there is movement by conservatives to undo the US Surpreme Court Obergefell decision, which overruled individual state laws on gay marriage. Amending the state constitution will settle it for Virginia, even if Obergefell is overturned.
