I was texting w/ a friend, and I told him how years ago when I was just barely keeping my bills paid, I had parked and was walking into a building downtown when a couple approached me. They were a middle aged black couple, and me a still young white guy.
They excused themselves for bothering me and told me that their car had broken down and the tow truck wanted $39 to tow their car. They pointed to the car and tow truck on the street. But they said they only had $20 and would I be able to help? So I reached in my pocket and pulled out all the bills I had — exactly $19.
When I handed the bills to the guy, he asked me how he could repay me…and I told him to just pass it on to the next person who needed it…and I heard the woman make a whimpering sound, and I looked up and she was almost crying.
