That Eastern Black Swallowtail butterfly I saw the other day has been busy! I counted 6 small caterpillars on the fennel out back!
For scale reference, this is an iPhone pic, taken at about 6" away. So I almost didn't notice them!
And I am confused by these, as they appear to be eggs. But I think butterfly eggs should be dispersed and laid singly, not in clutch like this. I’m gonna keep an eye on it!
